NEW YORK (AP) - A man was recovering at a hospital after being hit by a Long Island Rail Road train in Hicksville.
The man identified as 44-year-old Steven Gould of Plainview was hit at about 7:10 a.m. Tuesday by a New York City-bound train.
Railroad spokesman Rich Mendelson says investigators are trying to determine how he ended up on the tracks.
Mendelson says emergency medical services personnel removed him from the tracks alive. A spokeswoman at Nassau University Medical Center listed the man in critical but stable condition. Police say he suffered a severed arm.
Despite the accident, Mendelson says rush-hour train service was not disrupted.
