Former teacher in NY cleared of endangerment

Associated Press - May 15, 2009 4:05 PM ET

OSWEGO, N.Y. (AP) - Upstate New York prosecutors say they are dismissing a child endangerment charge against a former high school Spanish teacher who was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old male student.

Oswego County District Attorney Donald Dodd says Jennifer Dempsey was cleared of any wrongdoing in the year-old case. Prosecutors say the charges were dismissed in the interest of justice, but won't elaborate.

The 29-year-old teacher worked at Oswego High School for six years. She was charged in March 2008 after the boy's parents went to the district because they were concerned about the relationship between the student and teacher.

The district placed Dempsey on administrative leave. She resigned her position in March 2009.
