SCHAGHTICOKE -- There are plenty of questions after an early Friday morning fire heavily damaged a Schaghticoke house - a tragedy the family was fearful might happen.
A flood of emotion poured from Virginia Remmington and her family after they watched their house go up in flames on Melrose Valley Falls Road.
Remmington got the call from her daughter-in-law, who lives across the street, at 5:00am saying the house was engulfed.
"When I got here, I probably got here about six to eight minutes after and the whole backside of the house was just huge flames," Remmington said. "Everything was on fire."
Fortunately for the Remmingtons, Virginia and her husband Charles actually live up the road. They say they were in the process of fixing up the house that burned, adding they haven't been there to work on it in months.
Recent suspicious fires in the area have them thinking arson is a possibility.
"I've been worried about it all this time, because it was just the house next door where we farm - the property that went up about a month ago or so," Remmington said.
Now the Remmingtons have to pick up the pieces after an already difficult stretch for the family.
"My son here's been doing the dairy farm until April; we had to get out of the dairy business because of the economy and the low milk prices, and now this happens it's like everything comes at once," an emotional Remmington told NEWS10.
