LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Governor David Paterson's approval numbers continue to reside in the political dumpster.
The latest poll from the Siena Research Institute shows that, for the eighth consecutive month, the governor's job approval rating remains below 25%.
The Governor continues to promise to run for election next year, but the Siena Poll shows that 66% of Paterson's fellow Democrats want "someone else" to run and 56% of African Americans want "someone else" besides the state's first African-American governor to seek the office.
Steve Greenberg of Siena says, "The first African-American governor of New York; you'd think that he could fall back on his base, African-American voters, but this governor cannot do that."
In a Democratic primary against Cuomo, the latest numbers show Paterson would get 20% of the vote compared to Cuomo's 70%.
While in a general election match-up with Giuliani, Paterson would get 33% to Giuliani's 56% - that's a difference of 4% from last month.
When asked about actions that would make people more likely to support Governor Paterson, most voters talked about fixing the state budget.
This brings us to our web poll question: do you think Governor Paterson will have to raise your taxes in order to close the state's budget gap?
