NEWCOMB, N.Y. (AP) - Police say the single-engine Piper Cherokee 140 that crashed in the Adirondacks is believed to have been carrying two men from Franklin County in northern New York.

State police say the plane went down on icy Santanoni (san-tan-OH'-nee) Mountain, a 4,600-foot peak in a rugged area near the Essex County town of Newcomb, 90 miles northwest of Albany.

Police say the victims have been tentatively identified as 66-year-old Ronald Rouselle of Malone and 48-year-old Daniel Wills of North Bangor. Their cars were found in the airport parking lot in Malone.

Authorities say the plane left Saratoga County Airport at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday headed for Malone, but never arrived.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
