ALBANY, NY -- The personal of information of thousand of medicare patients could be at risk after an insurance company has mailed out postcards with social security numbers clearly printed on the front.
The postcards were mailed out by The Universal American Insurance Company.
Of the 80,000 postcards that were sent out 35,000 were for patients here in New York.
If those social security numbers get put into the wrong hands, they can be used to steal someone's identity.
Glens Falls Congressman Scott Murphy says the cards are and outrageous breach.
He says they endanger the safety and privacy thousands of New York seniors.
Universal American has apologized tonight for the mistake and released at toll-free number for concerned patients.
