Rensselaer D.A. in Trouble

Updated:

Once again, Rensselaer County D.A. Trish DeAngelis has seen a major conviction overturned, but this time the judge has some harsh words for the controversial prosecutor.

The sodomy conviction of 37 year-old Jeffrey Hunter got tossed out because the D.A.'s office withheld information that the judge said might have cleared him. The prosecutor did not disclose that the 17 year-old woman who accused hunter of rape had accused yet another man of the same thing just before Hunter went to trial. Judge Patrick McGrath said the D.A.'s office violated its professional responsibility.

DeAngelis was not the trial attorney, but sources familiar with the case say she did most, if not all, of the pre-trial work and then handed the case over to another prosecutor.
