Local Soldier Killed in Iraq

Updated:

Army Captain Timothy Moshier, a Delmar native, died when an Apache helicopter he as riding in went down during combat operations on Saturday.

The military believes that his chopper was taken down by enemy fire.  It crashed ten miles southwest of Baghdad, claiming the life of Moshier and his co-pilot.

The 25-year-old Moshier graduated from West Point Military Academy in 2002.  Neighbors say he dreamed of piloting a helicopter like the Apache someday.  He is described as a "big but gentle man."  His family said, in a statement, that he was dedicated to being a soldier and believed in what he was doing.  They added that, "we've lost a great husband, a great son, and a great dad."

Moshier graduated from Bethlehem High School in 1998.  Principal Charles Abba made an announcement at the school on Monday morning, where a moment of silence was observed.

He is survived by his wife Katie and their 10-month-old daughter Natalie.
