A small dog is lucky to be alive after being rescued from the middle of the Hudson River!
The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Department launched a rescue mission for the little guy Tuesday afternoon, and were able to grab him at the base of a nearby railroad bridge.
During last weeks "Alive at Five" concert series in downtown Albany, someone heard a dog barking from that direction - but when authorities investigated, they found nothing. Then Tuesday, someone else called the sheriff's office to report distressed barking coming from the river. This time, deputies found the dog, who is in good condition.
He appears to be a 3-to-4-year-old Chihuahua, and is now at the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society, where they will hold it for five days and then put it up for adoption if no one claims him.
