Stolen shopping spree: Colonie Police are on the hunt for the people they say stole thousands of dollars of goods from area stores, using a stolen credit card!
Investigators say the card was stolen in Albany, but used in the Latham area. They say two people, a man and a woman, used that stolen credit card to buy several thousand dollars of stuff from stores in that area.
NEWS10 has obtained surveillance video of the suspects in the Target store at the Latham Farms shopping center. Security cameras caught the pair at a checkout lane, filling up two carts worth of items. But as NEWS10's Mark O'Brien reports, police need your help cracking the case.
Take a look at this video: click here. See someone you recognize? Colonie Police hope you do. The two people on that tape are on a seemingly normal shopping trip, but they are using a stolen credit card.
"We get them in almost on a weekly basis, and this is one of those cases where we're just stumped at this point," says Colonie Police Lieutenant John Van Alstyne. "We think the video's going to solve the case for us."
The surveillance video was taken at the Target in Latham Farms - one of two stores where investigators say the couple shopped. In all, it is believed the pair bought more than three-thousand dollars in household items. Colonie Police tell us the other store the pair shopped at was the Lowe's at Latham Circle.
Investigators say all the purchases came within hours of each other - the same day the card was stolen. That was their window of opportunity; something Patricia Corrodore knows all about.
"Oh yeah, it's a process," Corrodore says.
Corrodore had her purse stolen before. And while the time to stop payment and find the stolen card is short, she says the lessons learned are life-long.
"I try to keep more aware of where my purse is," says Corrodore. "I don't just leave it on the top of a shopping cart, I always try to keep it on me."
Take a good look again: click here. Colonie Police say the woman caught on tape wearing a gray t-shirt is five-foot-four, 180-pounds, and in her mid-20's. The man pushing the cart, wearing a striped Polo shirt, is about five-foot-10, 180-pounds, also in his mid-20's. Police believe the pair drove off in a silver, early 2000 model Chevy or GMC pick-up, with ladder racks in the truck bed. Anyone with information is asked to call Colonie Police at: (518) 783-2811.
