Schumer: 'No Child Left Behind' Left Upstate Behind

Posted:
New York Senator Chuck Schumer says upstate schools are being left out of President Bush's budget.

According to Schumer, the administration's new budget under funds the "No Child Left Behind Act". He also says that means upstate schools will get shortchanged by $180-million this year.

He says Capital Region schools will only get a little over $30-million, which is $15-million less than they should get.

The Senator believes the deficit comes from unfunded Title 1 Grants promised in the 2002 legislation.

We will have more on how those deficits affect individual schools tonight on NEWS10, starting at five o'clock.
