A new study is reminding us just how beneficial AMD and other chip fabrication companies could be to the upstate New York economy.
Those results were released by the Center for Economic Growth in Albany, along with National Grid, and Mohawk Valley Edge - a non-profit group from western New York.
The group says that upstate New York sites, like the Luther Forest in Malta, where AMD is expected to build, can compete with the rest of the nation and all over the world.
They say upstate New York also has the skilled workforce necessary for research and development.
"With 23 colleges and universities, numerous technology companies that have been in this business for many years, you'll find there will be opportunities not only for the people who work here, but to attract new people to the area," said Michael Tucker, president of the Center for Economic Growth.
Leaders say Albany's location makes it ideal, since it's close to other big states, New York City and Canada.
